Jolteon's head looks fucked up. Scyther has the same problem. Yet Vaporeon and Scizor have amazing sprites. HGSS tends to have either really good or really bad sprites. The rest are just bland or reused from Platinum.

I remember reading in an interview that pre-gen 4 they made the sprites first and then did the sugimori art. Gen 4 onwards is when they did all the concept art first and then based the sprites on the art. Which is why gen 3 is last generation to have weird off model sprites.

Yeah, I have no idea how Quagsire’s color changed so drastically in Platinum and then went back to the normal coloring in HGSS. Gligar’s color changing between all the Gen 4 games is a weird case too.

Because Hitmontop is on its head literally all of the time, right? Fuck off. The sprite isn't even spinning, it's just awkwardly balancing. The model perfectly ties in the inspiration behind Hitmontop and even has animations to show how it actually manages to spin from a standing position.

Basically all of the RSE sprites for pokemon outside of Gen 3 were god-awful, but this one is one of the worst offenders. I can hardly even tell what it's supposed to be.

I just noticed that I've never seen vileplume 3D model and how they always fucked up the perspective on its sprites so it shows the top of the flower, now vileplume looks weirdly flat on a normal view.

I always liked the hat tipping sprites but this thread is not about the good ones.

i could legit put almost every rse sprite in here they are so bad, also side topic i don't like how every animation in gen 3/4 are legit 2 frames max with the mon either shaking or wobbling around. crystal had more frames and that was on the gbc.
