>>38539731>Why not just make an OC black guy?Movie Tim technically is an OC black guy. He has almost NOTHING in common with the game Tim other than his name.
I'm black too, and I couldn't care less about race swapping if the character isn't iconic, which game Tim wasn't. Automatically calling it an attempt to pander, however, is something that just pisses me off because it leaves no benefit of a doubt on the creators' intentions and opens up grounds to attack them for not following your specific ideas on how to see or treat race. A creator could put a gay or non-white character in their project for any reason, or none at all, and people just have to turn it into a controversial point when it can easily be ignored. Tim's race has never been relevant to any extent, yet the instant it's changed people are going to pin the decision on pandering and SJWs rather considering the offchance that the producers don't give a fuck about his race because there is no reason to care about his race.
All this doesn't mean I like pandering, however. I hate it when people create things and tell me that I'm supposed to like it just because I'm black. Detective Pikachu, however, doesn't do this, hasn't tried to cash in on diversity points, and doesn't warrant being placed on this black and white scale of "pandering" that people have made due their need to classify everything through a political lens.
