Haven’t played since diamond and pearl. Thinking about getting platinum for replay value. Are black and white any good or should I just skip to X and Y?

I'd go for Platinum. You've probably forgotten a lot about the games by now, so it wouldn't feel like you were playing the same game. If not that, you should get B/W. Just beware that you're locked into only using Unova mons unless you trade with another game.

I was in the same boat as you. hadn't played since pearl when it came out, and I barely remember anything about it. don't even know if I finished it
I decided to go in order. leafgreen, heartgold, then I'll probably go emerald, platinum, white, and so on

BW are great games, they were probably the last great games, but everyone gets upset because they can’t use old Pokémon despite the most fun aspect of a new gen is getting to use new pokemon
