It's because a) Gen 6 introduced plenty of Pokemon with alternate forms, such as Mega Evolutions, Vivillon, Meowstic, Primals, etc., and b) Kalos has the biggest regional dex to date.

Kalos had its Pidgey reskin it was Talonflame, anon's more likely referring to a combination of how Johto & Sinnoh introduced a number of Pre-Evolutions and Evolutions to old Pokemon and how Kanto, Hoenn & Unova introduced a large number of one-stage and two-stage lines. seriously the Kalos and Alola Dexes (less the latter's UBs) are nearly half comprised of stereotypical Pokemon; the Starters, the fossils, the version exclusive non-legendaries, the regional bug, bird, rodent, dog and/or cat, the pseudo legendary, the box legendary pair. The only non-stereotypical two-stage line in Gen 7 is Tsareena.

Cross gen-evos and babies are still, get this, NEW POKEMON so it's really stupid to not count them as new pokemon in their own generation...Also, Sinnoh's whole theme was about Evolution and the many ways pokemon can evolve, hence all of the pre/Evos and all the new evo items and places. I'd say it was better for gens 6 and 7 because at least they were a little more consistently good. Sure if you wanted a specific type, you probably only had 1 or 2 (or in Alola's case, 3 or 4) choices. But that's still miles better than Sinnoh, where many types had 0 new good pokemon.

I think Gen VI design quality was top-notch, except the fairies.
Xerneas and Florges lines were decent, rest were meh to awful(Pikaclone was the worst one)

Well the Fairy type was brand new and they still didn't quite know where to go design wise. They essentially went the "take animal, color it pink" route at first, save for the two you just mentioned. I think this got better in gen 7.
