I wouldn't be surprised if Detective Pikachu 2 explores the merging some, with certain people having a mental bond or retaining certain abilities from their time linked to their pokemon, with Harry more affected than anyone else.
Maybe Lucy gets Psyduck's headaches until it evolves, or Watanabe's character snaps at people that get too close.
