When was the last time we got a heavily advertised "alt form" that appeared across multiple media (movies, manga, spin-off games, etc) and even got merch (like figures) but didn't make its way to the main games?

The closest thing I can think of is Detective Pikachu, but that's quite literally just a Pikachu with a hat.
