TO ALL THE HATERS:
The Pokemon franchise has and will always have different artistic depictions of the pokemon themselves. To see this please refer to the TCG which has MANY style depictions including: knitted pokemon, pokemon made out of clay and pokemon re-interpreted as famous paintings, just because the Detective Pikachu graphics were unexpectedly realistic does not mean that is the direction pokemon will permanently take, furthermore one of the reasons why it is such an appealing style to the true pokemon fans is because true pokemon fans can appreciate this tradition of the franchise having more that one realisation in terms of story, art and medium.
PLEASE BE AWARE:
Retarded gen wunners will bitch moan and argue that this realistic interpretation will 'ruin' the franchise, these people can only handle pokemon being depicted in the form they grew up on in 1998, i.e. the anime, the first gen games and the base set TCG. These retards don't appreciate the appeal of subverting expectations and aren't aware that the ever changing depictions of pokemon will mean that pokemon will ALWAYS be represented in more than one art direction
