Pokémon still had a positive reputation in the Gen IV days, and every new release would create endless threads. There was a general for Pokémon, but there were too many people for it to be contained. This comic page was made in March 2010, near the end of Gen IV, and it accurately describes the fervor. While Pokémon wasn't big in the public's eye like it has been for the past few years, finding people in real life who played the games after going through high school where Pokémon fans were closeted and were looked at weird if they revealed their interest was always an amazing experience. It was like all parties could suddenly let out years of pent up chattering over a mutual interest. /v/ was filled with these kinds of people, and Black and White was the biggest hype season yet with all those intriguing trailers. moot decided it was time that Pokémon got its own containment board, and the first few months were pretty ridiculous. But there was a flaw. Every new game brings newfags begging for ROMs, and that includes English releases months later. It was also 4chan, so you had all the degenerate furries and autismos. And not only that, but Pokémon is really entry level and attracted all sorts of younger people, impressionable idiots, and tumblrfags, people who were not accustomed to 4chan. When hype season died down, the more normal people went back to their boards while the undesirables stayed. 2011 was godawful here, but at least we're better now.
