Male. Female characters getting better clothes doesn't matter to me since I have no desire to dress up like a girl. The males have good clothes to choose from anyway so it's not a big deal.

I tend to pick the boy for the first playthrough, and the girl for the second. Unless the male protag is ugly as fuck, like in B2W2, where I used the female instead.

If I can customize I play as a girl because I like self inserting as much as I can. Seeing Serena with the same clothes I wear irl and my same haircut was really nice tbqh. If there's no custom, I simply go with the design I like the most (for example, in ORAS I went with Brendan because I liked pretending he had white hair, I love white hair).

in xy and oras i chose a boy because i wanted to see all the serena/may interacions, chose a boy in sm and usum because i thought if my friends see me playing as the girl i'd be embarresed, but i don't even see my friends enough for that to happen so from here on out it's girl all the way
