Skip all the water routes and delete dive after using it in the story. the items, trainers, and wild Pokemon in and under the water are all complete shit and aren’t worth the HM move slot. You’ll have a much better time, don’t forget repels when you have to go water routes or you’ll be there for a fucking week

You can only get chinchou, relicanth and clampearl in dive sections, so just get them in sootopolis then just check guidesn for the rest of the dive items
Then forget that dive is even a thing.
You only need to surf to sky tower to catch fug and then find the Regi activation cave, and there you need relicanth and wailord to unlock it

I like emerald but open water routes like these arent any fun unless you have either a large view of the map or some ingame map to navigate. Playing this blind just becomes using repels + systematically going all the way up, moving 20 steps to the right, going all the way down, move to the right, go up again.... and so on to make sure you haven't missed anything. There are corsolas which can be fished. This makes the most sense as it shows the ocean itself that usually doesnt have too much at the surface. The appeal of the ocean doesn't even have that much to do with the animals seen if you were to ask someone who likes the sea. Maybe there should've been a little bit more diversity in the diving areas though.

I want either a zoomed out camera when you enter the ocean so you can see enough to differentiate one screen of blue water from another, or a larger pokenav map for the ocean that starts out empty but fills in the area with more detail as you explore it

Started with Red but okay. I can admit that gen 1 has aged atrociously.

Besides gen 1 the gen 3 sprites are among the worst weve had and the overworld does not take advantage of the GBA at all. They basically took gen 2 graphics and colored them in.
