>>38585579>I've personally never seen anyone criticize Arcanine for just getting bigger, probably because Arcanine doesn't need any extra detail. No one makes the "just gets bigger criticism of Arcanine, yes, and that was my point. Whether or not people want to admit it, Growlithe "justs get bigger" into Arcanine in exactly the same way that damn near every other "just gets bigger" mon does.
>Because it's design is so grounded in reality, all it really needs to do is look more powerful and mature than Growlithe, just like its real life inspiration. The only thing many final evos need to do is look more powerful and mature. The real life inspirations they draw on are irrelevant. My point in posting the tigers was that it's natural for ANY creature to just become more powerful and mature as it ages/evolves, and such is a completely valid design option.
>The same can't be said for mons that get this criticism thrown at them often, like Poliwrath and Typhlosion. With those lines GF started to go down a more creative path than just "animal with elemental motif" but didn't finish the job. This is a completely arbitrary mentality and you know it. What path, exactly, do you think they were going down? Like, specifically, what features would you have added, and how do you think they were "suppose" to end up? If you have fanarts you can post, that would be great. Now that I think about it, for all the complaints about "just get bigger" that I see, I don't think I have EVER seen someone post a fanart of what they think a "just get bigger mon" should be.
Poliwrath looks exactly like a "more powerful and mature" version of Poliwag and Poliwhirl, as does Typhlosion look exactly like a "more powerful and mature" version of Cyndaquil and Quilava. Just like Growlithe and Arcanine and real life tigers, most of the features are pretty much the same, but the final forms look significantly cooler than the base exactly because they just look like "more powerful and mature" versions.
