It's my favorite game in the series and I've played it about four times. It's not perfect and the evil team isn't the best either but it's the best region in the series and a very enjoyable ride. I also like that you get two starters and the ability to change your difficulty with the EXP Share (turning it off makes it harder, but not always by much). It has a very diverse selection of pokemon and while it has some nostalgia pandering it has enough to stand on it's own and seems more like a celebration of the series in general then just the original games.

It might not be for everyone but I certainly loved it enough. Helps that my first wild shiny was in this game too, with a Mega to boot!

A darker than normal plot about genocide in order to "save the world" and impress a pretty girl. Also a cursed king.

Super easy EV training from almost the start of the game. Get items from the training game once EVs are maxed.

Super comfy sunsets and sunrises. Find a spot near the water and chill on a bench. You'll thank us.

Nice overworld maps and music.

Fun random trading and O power systems.

An under-rated game way better than ORAS and better than SUMO. That said, I think it rivals Ultra Sun/Moon, IMHO. Also a lot of physical attackers and a seriously broken route 1 mon. Keep your fletchling.

Well, there is the battle maison, the friend safari, and chasing all the mega stones. This really is more of a social-oriented post game for people to fling mons at each other via wondertrade, battle, toss around o-powers with abandon, and have fun with each other. Not great for solo players.

I'm replaying it now, and I've been thoroughly enjoying it.

It has its flaws, but every game does. In my opinion the cons don't really outweigh its pros.

I enjoy it, and so long as you stay away from the "every game is dogshit" hivemind, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too.

XY are inoffensive and dull. They aren't completely awful but their only selling points were being new and being 3D (and they're the worst running 3D pokemons by a mile as well)

If you've never played XY or don't know anything about Kalos, try playing it once. You'll probably think it's okay and IMMEDIATELY get bored as soon as you beat the game.

It's also really easy but fuck it every pokemon game is really easy, who cares.

XY were the games that set the standard that it was okay to have a dogshit awful postgame and they never looked back. It was truly the beginning of the end for the franchise and we haven't seen it really recover to date

XY was the definition of a by the numbers pokemon game with no substance of note. I dont remember a single thing about the region other than the pokemon selection being solid.
Its a shame that Z was basically scrapped since there was so much potential, but judging from ORAS it probably wouldn't be anything to write home about.

Unbalanced mess, as anon pointed out below you, glitches, terrible programming mix ups, many of the sprites were terrible (not in Yellow mind you), among a couple other lesser things. They're far from the worst, but it's a chore playing through them again.

GS are pretty close as well, but they fixed many of the balancing issues as well as the lack of glitches. It was also the beginning of actual post game (even if it was just going back to Kanto). GS aren't in my top either, I just wouldn't say they're the bottom 3 for me.
