SM has better Pokemon and characters imo, but XY is such an easy-going game in comparison; SM is riddled with cut-scenes that make the games painful and yet completely un-challenging, whereas I've come back to XY a few times despite not really liking the region.

2012 gave us B2W2, Conquest and Pokepark 2, the only bad game was Gates to Infinity. You can't say it started that year. Last year we got LGPE, which is the worst piece of media in the entire franchise, so you can't say it ended in 2015 either.

If anything it started in 2013 and it's still ongoing. The only good game we got in this period is PSMD.

Despite its flaws, at least XY had these things over SM:
- Good online
- Regional dex with a good amount of pokémon
- Nice environments (except for the desert)
