I think that you really underestimate the stuff Nintendo will be showing at E3, both follow-up to the February Direct and new stuff for late 2019/early 2020.
I am sure that it will either be a Pokemon trailer in the next few days until the end of May, or after E3

The concern I have is that GF is usually very eager to "blow their load" on all the details of their new pokemon games, and if they haven't shown anything yet...and the games are due for release at the end of the year, that means there's very little worth talking about. They did, more or less the same thing for US/UM and those games are a literal copy and paste.

If there were more pokémon, they would just reveal more. Having fewer pokémon in the game should prompt them to reveal even less before release if their mindset was not "let's get almost everything out before the game is out... and then make sure the demo will have data on everything else to be datamine"

It's different for Metroid because that game isn't out this year, and got completely restarted from scratch. We are used to to semi-regular news with Pokemon because it is the kind of game where you can have that, due to the amount of monsters.
