A lot of the Pokedex entries people take as fact aren't even stated as fact in setting in the first place.
Take

Here is every Pokedex entry that mentions it:
>Ruby/OmegaRuby: [...] It is believed that this Pokémon will steal the spirit of anyone peering into its hollow body from its back.>Diamond/Pearl/Platinum: [...] Peering into the crack on its back is said to steal one's spirit.>Black/White/Black 2/White 2/X: [...] Peering into the crack on its back is said to steal one's spirit.Notice how not a single one of these states it as fact, but rather goes out of their way to say "it's said" or "it is believed". Because it's folklore in setting. Not a known fact about the species. Just like how a book might tell you about the beliefs or stories people had about certain animals or species in the real world. Doesn't mean those are true.
