Having all that (the Pokémon but also two generations of maps, two generations of unused Trainer sprites, and old unused move data) that close to release would be way too much wasted data to be acceptable (and probably too much to fit on a GB cartridge rom chip), no way they would ship out with all the unused maps and Pokémon still in the ROM. The ROM the Pokémon came from doesn't have backsprites but then the guy might and likely does have multiple. He has some insight into Blue and Yellow's development, too, and has the logos from 1990 and 1993.
