They can either adapt to pokemon, and "play pokemon as it is, in game, not what we want it to be" as their site used to say in 4th gen, meaning play the VGC doubles game that game freak is making, or they can cling to singles and come up with increasingly complex rules and bans to the point where they're barely playing pokemon anymore.
