I love using Rapidash and the grass starter, good choice anon

Absol is fun to use too, but you get it rather late in game. If you can trade use a Gastly and evolve it (alternatively just use cheats to get a Gengar, looks like you're using an emulator)

I actually love a lot of sinnohdex in platinum
Gyarados, milotic, garchomp, gallade, gardevoir and altaria were my team for latest platinum run

I'm tempted to switch my Ponyta out for him as I always prefer dual types.

I still need a water type but gen 4's weren't that great so it'll have to be an older one. Any recommendations?

Fighting/Psychic/Electric/Ice would be nice as well. Or anything close to where I am now (Floaroma Town)

My go-to party was always:
Infernape (because there's almost no other fire types)
Staraptor (close combat)
Luxray (early electric type, shame about it not getting dark as secondary type)
Gyarados (great stats great coverage)
Gallade (fun typing, and my 2nd fav mon)
Froslass (not as useful as the rest but she's my no.1 fav mon)

Platinum's dex was such a needed improvement. Small things like making ponyta available before the first gym instead of after you get the bicycle. And actually giving it a physical fire move. And no game should lock ralts behind postgame like DP did.

I'd say keep Ponyta, Houndoom is flat out better than Rapidash but at least it's unique.
Manectric is a fun one, Whiscash is often underlooked because Quagsire, Honchkrow for flyer/bro and Medicham for an easy run or Bronzong for an easy lategame pickup.

How is Bronzong? I've never used him because he's so slow, but I like his typing.

Was thinking of using Octillery for my water type to switch things up, anyone like using him? Stupid design but his stats and movepool are better than I thought.

Got a Skorupi on the great marsh in my last platinum run. He was fun to use and Drapion was a monster. He is kind of sneaky to get, but if you go there either Slorupi or Yanma are good choices

Bronzing is a beast, speed is the only downside, you'd probably want a levitate one.

Octillary is really slow and monotype but he's definitely unique, for some reason the electric leader has one.

Gastrodon and Roserade are solid, but if you don't want overlapping types, anything like Tentacruel, Toxicroak, Drapion, Drifblim, Medicham, are all solid Pokemon.

My ingame team (Renegade Platinum but still works) is:

Any of gen 4's new evo's are worth using. Mismagius, Honchkrow, Magnezone, Rhyperior, Electivire, Magmortar, Togekiss, Yanmega, Gliscor, Gallade, and that's not even all of them.

Gen 4 had so many new evo's for existing mons and they're all great additions. When will we get another gen like that?
