Yeah I guess it's better than some GAME BASED movies but it doesn't mean that it's good.
I cringed a lot, especially at blatant """"nostalgia-waking"""" moments like Pikachu singning the anime opening, and also at classic Hollywood Pee&Fart jokes™.
Reynolds is a shitty pick for Pikachu's VA, I bet he was invited simply because his take on Deadpool was successfull. And his jokes are shit too.
Justice Smith was kinda annoying too. "If you don't know how to act - just put a big dumb fucking smile on your face".
Pokemon designs varied from fine to atrocious. But I must say, I really liked their take on Mr. Mime. Somehow they made it even better than the original. Except for these basketball shoulders maybe.
Pokemon with many scales (Charizard) or wrinkles (Mewtwo) or with very simplistic faces (Aipom, Jigglypuff, Squirtle) were the most uncanny.
Speaking of Pokemon designs, it was quite obvious that the filmmakers weren't satisfied with them as well. So they tried to hide the shameful quanity and quality behind either fast-moving camera, fast-changing camera angles, poor lightning or blurry background. There were some good shots too, but they were rare.
