I don't know how good the rest of the movie is, but a 'sonic happens to find a way into our world' scenario is ten times better than trying to fucking depict the pokemon world with its 'oh yeah you're 10 now, just go explore the world lmao' and gym badges and expenses all paid by the government because, who the fuck knows
no matter how much you hate the pikachu movie, what it depicts will always be better for a live action setting than what the games/anime shows
people can disconnect the fact that the world makes sense if it's in some shitty jrpg or from a chinese cartoon, but you can't do that in a live action setting without completely ruining it, either for 'the fans' or for 'the audience'
