So the "small indie company" thing is actually true.

Anyway this isn't really news, Gamefreak has always done original projects and they do tend to be better than Pokemon games. See Drill Dozer and Pulseman.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional.

Came out 8 months before Sun and Moon. Wasn't even well received enough for an English release.

Monolith and Retro would kill to work with pokemon, but gamefreak literally has the ip hostage. I have no idea how good their deal was with nintendo, but gamefreak doesn't seem to have to answer to nintendo usual standards for main games, the only thing comparable are the mario party games

That's not even Professional, that's the base version of the game. Professional came out a year later because Joker 3 sold well enough in Japan to warrant an enhanced version in the same vein as Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. It was received well enough in Japan, it's just that there have never been any plans to localize any DQM game since Joker 2 flopped abroad. And part of why THAT one flopped like a Magikarp was that they only localized Joker 2 vanilla after Joker 2 Professional had been out in Japan for like half a year.
Square Enix treats Dragon Quest like garbage outside of Japan and it's a fucking miracle that we're getting a worldwide release of DQXI S instead of making non-Japanese fans wait well over a year again.

I don't understand is why everyone is freaking the fuck out about this. GameFreak has been doing pretty much solely Pokemon for 23 years now. It's obvious they're going to get burned out and not have much motivation for the series. What you people call "low effort" I call lack of motivation.

We haven't seen much of town and I'm excited to see where they go with it. The only part that pisses me off is that they refuse to take a 1 to 2 year gap between Pokemon so they can work on new shit and get new ideas.

Ehh. Can't say I'm too impressed. It's N64 quality at best. The environment has an LoZ Ocarina vibe. The trees look like the snow levels of Mario 64, hell even the carbon copy remake probably had better looking trees.

What the fuck would an MMO offer than the regular games don't that's going to hold people over for years? I can already catch almost everything in every game and battle and trade with anybody I want. The only things an MMO would do differently would the frequent content updates, the overworld being big and exploration-based (neither of which you need to be an MMO to do), and being able to see other players running around that world, which is not the game changer you think it is.
