I did when I was younger and first playing the game since I wanted to use Houndoom. Ended up with a bunch of varied level 45-55 pokemon by the time I hit Red.

Which falls right in line with Blue, oddly enough. We can't say if it was what Game Freak had in mind at the time but it adds up.

Yeah the Blue fight was honestly the highlight of Kanto for me. Personally I made it a point to fight everyone in the region first and then go through the gyms one after another rapidfire.
