SM's animation was never the problem, it's the fact that nothing fucking happens. You get like one battle every 30 episodes. No characters of the day sounds fine, because you're thinking "oh well they'll develop the main cast" but haha nope, Ash's classmates are about as developed as any character who only showed up for one episode
