My country's licensed Nintendo store is full of gen 4, 5 and 7 plushies, almost nothing from the others and yet they're almost always sold out. The owner takes requests and has mentioned several times how people always want more from those mentioned gens and don't give a crap about anything else, not even gen 1.

Yesterday I decided to look back in on this franchise to see what's happened in the past 10 years. I was met with convoluted designs, blatant generational plagiarism to sell old ideas as new, and a realization that this series as a whole has become some clockwork monstrosity absent the simple charm that made it fun in the first place.

Gen 2 wasn't bad. Gen 3 wasn't terrible, but it's where the problem started. You had things like Plusle and Minun. You had a bunch of harsh designs and reiterations. Different versions of the same things that are basically fan edits of Gen 1 and Gen 2 pokemon. And then it kept creeping. More reiterations. More fan edits. More convoluted design. And then you get into things like Mega Evolutions and Ultra Beasts where everyone involved completely lost the plot. It becomes a lackluster Digimon spinoff at that point.

Gen 5 was when the series was at an all time low when it came to pokemon: designs that look either horrible or were ripped off from Gen 1, nonsensical plot, shitty characters and sprites, lame region,etc and it only gets worse from there

I don't deny that people like gen 1, and I don't care that there is more merchandise of it than the others. That said, the blatant bias for Kanto in recent games, especially gen 7, is fucking ridiculous. I play these games to see the new pokemon, not watch a bunch of idiots masturbate to Kanto and its pokemon to promote a bunch of shitty merch.
