If it were gen 4+ battle mechanics I would disagree
but between boring double battles and gen 3 battle mechanics, it's pretty meh

It's called "git gud so you can compete in VGC".
So long as VGC is a yearly thing, TPC(i) will be able to reassure GameFreak that Doubles will never need to be heavily featured in the game's campaign or anywhere else outside of the Battle Tower Clone.

There's a fan-made hack of GoD which updates all the battle mechanics to Gen 7, including Fairy-type and all moves up till LGBT. And you can also capture all the Pokémon you previously couldn't.

I like it, the restrictions push me to put together teams I would not really think to use otherwise, Hariyama and Stantler for example, both were good as well.
