On an alternate timeline...
>2012. BW2 are launched. VC versions of RBGY are launched with an ingame (legal) Mew event. They do all the KANTOOO pandering they can during this year.
>2013. VC versions of GSC are launched with the ingame Celebi event.
>2014. XY are launched with more customization for male trainer and an improved story, characters and a more balanced difficulty (or a Challenge Mode returning) as well as Pokebank support for VC games. Mega Evolution activates until 7th Gym and you only get one Mega Stone for a Pokemon with high happiness on yor party.
>2015. ORAS launch with a Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches.
>2016. For the 20th anniversary, they launch a "Z" DLC with Battle Frontier for XY with ORAS additions (Secret Bases, Contests, Mega Stones, Battle Frontier) and the new Zygarde forms within a Souther Kalos and Power Plant episode.
>2017. Pokemon SM are launched with following Pokemon, Contests and Secret Bases, and Battle Frontier. As there was never a real need for Kanto pandering after 2012, Alolan forms and exclusive Z-moves are availiable for Pokemon from most regions. They choose to use the new gimmicky abilities and moves on old Pokemon to heavily update them. Battle Bond becomes availiable for the other Kalos Starters.
2018. Pokemon LGPE are launched to test the Switch hardware. "Ultra" DLC launches for SM with skippable cutscenes, trainer customization colors from the opposite game, and every feature Ultra SM gave us (Ultra Wormholes, Rainbow Rocket episode, new Z-Moves, Mantine Surf, Photo Studio).
>2019. Pokemon Sword and Shield are announced. Everyone's pretty hyped as GF has taken excellent directions with the franchise. All thanks to the DLC instead of third versions and keeping the best features of every game instead of trying to pander to genwunners.
