I used to strictly always pick Squirtle as a kid.

Now I usually either pick whatever and box it or go Bulbasaur. There was never a time in my life where I considered even for a second picking Charmander, because that’s what my friend always picked and he was my rival.

Zard X is only good when it setups with DD.
but still needs a defogger for SR and it's now weak from EQs.
Meanwhile, Volcarona can do Charizard X without wasting a mega slot. Heatran also is the best fire type in OU anyway, and it doesn't require Mega as well.

Mega Venusaur doesn't care about entry hazards and can function just fine without any setup.
The only reason why it got less usage is because of Kartana and Ferrothorn
