I can see some Pokemon being inspired by those and Through the Looking Glass/Alice in Wonderland.

But not the starters.

Reasonable, if only because that would make the 'cup' inspiration as 'the world cup' for Scorbunny. Grookey getting a club works in general. The only odd one would be Sobble, but there's plenty of ways to include blades or spikes into a design.

I think the card suit theory falls in the same category as the alchemical symbols did; interesting (even if some are a stretch) but nothing concrete and likely to be dropped by the evolutions.
