The reason that GF keeps removing features in the newer generations is because they’re afraid that the more competitive features like the Battle Frontier will go unused by children. But GF is also aware that there’s an older audience that wants these features to return.
In the past, GF has always favored going for the younger market than the older one because it’s easier to get video game sales from kids than the older, adult fans who have other financial responsibilities. However, now that Game Freak knows that kids will buy LGPE style games they can start to add more features for the older audience in the main games. This way, even if the younger fans don’t buy the main games or are less interested in the content , GF knows that it can make up those sales with a more casual game like LGPE.
