The prehype was insane, maybe because it was such a long buildup
I remember seeing early corocoro scans with sprites for munchlax, weavile and Lucario and being excited for the new games

I've never been as hyped for a Pokemon game as DPPt back in 2006, god I remember checking serebii religious and watching dodgy quality Japanese videos of footage when it came out there
Gen V kinda had a similar kind of buildup since we didn't have the synchronised international releases, since they've started doing those I've just lost interest in Pokemon as a whole (doesn't help the games are shit now)

Maybe it's because I'm mid-20's now as opposed to a teen but I kinda miss the magic of information leaking and trickling down

Kek, forgot about that. But yeah, having next gen cameos in other media like anime and spin offs is something I miss sorely. It's amazing how much hype a new pokemon can create

Honestly, i can't get excited for games since i was 14, XY and SM feelt super dull and Sword/Shield feel just as meh, idk why i can't get excited for pokemon anymore.

What i like about new pokemon reveals is how in deep they get discussed on /vp/, it's fun to see the meltdowns of people who don't like the design or people praising it.

The pinned threads when a pokemon gets revealed always are gold, /vp/ reactions to new pokemon are part of the experiencie.

Definitely.
I remember how fed up with Hoenn I was back in the time. I wanted something new and better. And Gen IV delivered, in my opinion. It did have its weak points, sure, but I felt it brought the franchise back on the right rails after overally mediocre Gen III.

Of course, the franchise got derailed again since (and it's even worse this time). It needs the same impulse that Sinnoh was. But can Galar even make it? I'm kinda afraid.

Even back then, I felt like D/P was good but it was really the wrong kind of good. I dropped the series after it until Black and White on an emulator after being so stupidly hyped for it in the first place. I wonder if you felt like PMD Rescue Team was an "apology" about Gen 3 as well. I certainly did.

Gen 4 release period was a "had to be there" moment. A lot of people nowadays dont know how hype it was to import the JPN copy before their westernbros could even play it. They dont know how hype looking for legends in the void was. They dont know how hype playing wifi and voicechatting for the first time was. They dont know anything. Most of the people with a hateboner for gen 4 started playing after the fact with an emulator and just talk shit about it being slow when most people didnt care about that at release. There were so many advancements gen 4 made that the series is based on now and we take for granted that a drop in animation speeds was forgivable for the sheer amount of QoL changes DP brought.

And people give Gen 5 a pat on the back like it wasnt a slight enhancement over gen 4. Nigga please.
