Its a screenshot of my New 3DS XL's top screen. To get Pokemon Emerald on your 3DS you need custom firmware and Ultimate GBA VC Injector, a program used to turn GBA ROMs into .cia files so you can play them on your 3DS with virtual console

There's no reason to own a 3DS. The GBA has a better screen if you go with the ags 101 and the Switch can emulate so much with so many good games.

the best gba doesnt even have the ags101 screen
you have to cough up about 70 bucks just for the screen and ribbon cable alone
while for 45 dollars you can buy a 2ds and hack it to get several emulators that run flawlessly on it
theres no reason to own a gba at that point unless you want gba to gc connectivity or trading

And even then PKHeX supports Colo/GoD save files so you could emulate them in your PC and 'trade' via .pkm files

I own both a 3DS and a GBA. The Virtual Console on the 3DS lets me enjoy Pokemon Red, Gold and Crystal without having to deal with that stupid battery issue. Oh, and being able to trade them outside of those respective versions, but I still keep my GBA so I can play the oldies that can't be emulated. Best of both worlds.
