Because they were slightly redesigned from their original artwork.
Notice how Charmander changed to look closer to Helioptile/Scraggy's style.
The eyes are bigger, the head is bigger and rounder, the belly is less pronounced and even the arms are slightly longer.

I feel bad for clawizter, it's cool but I like blastoise more. Even if I liked clawizter more than blastoise, it's a worse version of blastoise, and blastoise is only decent to begin with.
Really feels like they popped it in just to give blasty some egg moves, and it deserved more than that.
