As somebody who despises the transition to 3D, XY are the best 3D games. RSE are my favorite games but ORAS is just not as good as XY. That's not saying they aren't bad, but they get shit on too much.

As standalone games, hell no. But if you played this shit live with /vp/ on release date while shitposting and sharing friend safaris, then it goes into the upper echelons on comfyness. Maybe even the best Pokemon experience i've ever had.

Currently listenning the ost and I have to say it has more memorable route themes than Unova even when I recently played BW2, shame it has so few good routes, a sequel with southern kalos like BW2 would have helped a lot, so much wasted potential.

A better director would play off this strength, unfortunately XY has horrendous characters, writing and pacing - a shame really, because I really like Kalos as a region, but it's in the worst games since original RB, with no saving grace like Platinum was for DP

Big disagree, it was very comfy back in 2013 but it's probably dead now. At least the WiFi in Gen 4/5 wasn't intrusive and can still be used in a roundabout way.
These games ruined my hype for Pokemon and I have not bought a game new since, talk about the disappointment of the date

People did like Gen V at the time and still do though, the only major complaints were ever the Pokemon design (subjective) and the circular route (which BW2 basically fixed). Gen V did a lot right and from interviews it's very clear that Masuda put his heart and soul into them, their 'failure' is probably what led GF down their current path but to be honest they were doomed the moment Sinnoh was deemed too confusing by dumbfuck Japanese kids

I'm not implying PSS was bad. Back in 2013 PSS was very fun and I actually put over 300 hours into the game just from fucking around on multiplayer. That's the closest we've ever gotten to an official experience akin to that PokeMMO fangame.
I'm just saying that XY as games are so middle-of-the-road and forgettable that I highly doubt it's active at all these days, there is literally no substance in the actual game itself PSS carries the weight of the generation

I know it can still be used but the experience 6 years after release won't be the same as when we used to have friend safari threads here and people putting their names and FCs in their name column, it'll be pretty dead
Gen 4 wifi is comfier right now because it's so tight-knit, plus those games are actually good without that feature
