Cryogonal's honestly an above average ice type. They don't really show off its ice chains much and it can't really use them in battle aside from stuff like Bind. It's got decent speed, meaning it can set up Reflect or Acid Armor to patch up its shoddy Defense, though getting buffed to 50 Defense in Gen 7 helps. I legit got one on random battles once and it PP stalled Arceus-fighting Judgment with Recover. It's also got a good movepool(and attract for some reason. Cryogonal wants to know.), though a lot of coverage goes to its meh physical attack. Doesn't mean stuff like Rapid Spin doesn't help. Sad it's usually what people jump to when hating gen 5 designs once ice cream cone, garbage, and gears have been exhausted.

Don't feel the same way about Meltan, though.

It's the best user of Shell Smash in the game. USUM gave it a huge buff with Tough Claws Liquidation, +2 Z-Stone Edge blows up a surprising amount of shit, and it's got a wide array of coverage options to round out a set though you'll typically want either Earthquake or Grass Knot in the last slot.
It's also a pair of small (but highly unlikely) buffs away from being top tier, but you could say that about almost anything.

Slowking's problem is he is a special defense equivalent to Slowbro in a world with Calm mind.

Slowbro gets the the special coverage Slowking has anyway, and mixed defense is more useful than just monstrous Sp. Def with... ok def.

They could add a calm mind move that boosts defense and sp attack, but that would just make them too samey, and which you use depends on where you want the defenses to initially be.

Slowking needs something to call its own. Probably in the form of a complete revamp of all 3 of its abilities so it can be played differently to bro.

Actually if armoured forms is a thing and it has an effect on attack/defense, then Slowking would be a good candidate.

Give him his defensive boost via that, throw a unique bone by putting his attack to 110 or whatever and some new moves to go with it.

That way we have Mega Slowbro, and Armored Slowking, and both now have their own styles of play.

Damn straight. It's a shame since they both get overshadowed by other pokemon when they're good in their own right. Escavalier gets overshadowed by Scizor and Accelgor has trouble standing out between Ninjask and Greninja. Usually its because of getting outclassed competitively even though neither are bad. Mixing up who evolves into who between the two tends to happen a lot, as well.
