We will see the return of Z-moves in Sword/Shield but not the return of mega evolutions (as in, there will be no NEW mega evolutions). You can screencap this and quote me later about how prophetic I am.

Z-moves is an Alola only thing, I can't imagine people from other regions using it.
Plus the Guardians are the ones who give the rings needed for the moves.

Idk in all honesty they will probably just give a z ring after the E4 just like they did with the mega bracelet in alola and then have """sidequest""" to get each crystal to prove that you deserve them probably given by older Hau or young Hala depending when the game takes place, and to get alolan mons I assume probably similar to LGPE where you trade the kanto version and that will basically be the whole postgame

There, easy as pie to re-introduce and given UN's form change and several species-specific moves exist, you'd be a drooling retard to STILL insist Z-Moves won't return in future games.

Problem is, all four Kahuna are born and raised there, they can't leave as they are charged with protecting the place by their Tapu, Nanu, Hapu, Oliva, Hala, through it seems they can and do give out z-bracelets to worthy trainers as Gladion, Plumeria, the trail captains,Kukui and Hau all have them. If anything the most likely alolian native you'd most likely see would be Kali as she naturally travels to various regions. If Lusamine's family makes an appearance at most I can see them giving you the stuff you need to either evolve certain pokemon or change their forms
