Grew out of that when I was about 12. I think RSE era is the last time I gave a shit about the story or the anime.
The older I got, the more I wanted to focus on the mechanics of battling, training pokemon, "catching them all", nuzlockes, etc...
The actual story itself is for kids.

I actually started watching XY when it came out and Sun and Moon as well, but had to drop around episode 12-14. It's just too aimed at children. I tried but really can't get much enjoyment from it apart from some episodes.

I'm not 5 anymore, i do not enjoy anime that has no story and is not entertaining in any way.
The interactivity the games have can at least make them somewhat enjoyable.
