I do worry bank will shut down early and we won't be able to transfer from Gens 3-7 cartridges though.

Home is actually a very good concept, simply because you could now be browsing /vp/, see someone asking for a trade and do it right there on the spot with your phone. Pretty much the only worthwhile thing announced today.

Okay, so I have Black, White 2, Y, Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun, Yellow and Crystal. I’ll need Pokémon Bank/Transfer to transfer mons among these games to later Gens, but I’ll need to pay another service to connect them to Gen 8? Why couldn’t they expand the Pokémon Bank service so that we would be able to transfer not only to Gen 8 but also Pokémon GO and LGPE?

Wouldn't be so sure, nu-GF usually doesn't care too much about anything that isn't merch or mobile trends.

The hardware infrastructure only gets more and more different from here on out, eventually there will be a point where they just go "fuck it" and we lose that compatibility.

I don't think it will. Gen 3~5 didn't shut down when they closed that off.
Worst case scenario is that Bank is reduced to the Gen5 style of "in only".
They REALLY want to avoid the whole Gen2 to Gen3 butthurt again.

It wouldn't even be that hard. Have one of the shoulder buttons toggle a drop down screen for PSS, super training and other touch screen stuff. Other series worked past the lack of a second screen

Home is the one integration between handheld/console/phone that makes perfect sense and is convenient to boot. I'm glad I can just whip out my phone and just check my Pokemon and trade etc. That's awesome.
