Why is nobody talking about how good Home is?

It acts as a Trading hub, as well as the traditional storage system. Masuda teases group trading too.

It also means that Pokémon Go is basically an official randomizer for the main games now. Random Pokémon encounters on your street that you can immediately drop into the main game on the go, all through official means.

Wild. What other possibilities are awakened with this?

Shinies are literally worth nothing now. I have 20 legendary shinies in GO, 4 of them rayquazas. Why waste months hunting for shiny legendaries when you can get them in 10 minutes?

Those shinies will have the "GO" icon on their profile so people will know if you are porting a shiny from GO.

Shinies value is mostly sentimental and for "trophy" value anyways, most people dont trade their own shinies.

If the switch can maintain a hack-free economy (like the first few months of Gen 6), there might be some value in trading though, but like I said, the GO ones will be marked so those will be devalued if that really matters.

It doesn't have to be over wifi, the 3DS poke transfer app works by putting a gen 5 DS game in the 3DS and uploading them one box at a time to Bank. It's been updated to support the VC RBY and GSC games, there's no reason it can't also support gen 4 the same way, and obviously Home is compatible with Bank on the 3DS.

Icons have been on the profile of every game since X/Y. Even the VC ported ones have them, so people will see if you got say, a Shiny Magcargo at full odds in Silver compared to the 1%+ Ultra Space one in USUM. The Go icon was there in the files since the start of Gen 7 too, even though no Go Pokémon could be sent to that game. IIRC even LGPE has the Go Icon for transferred ones.

It'd be bizarre if they dropped this going forward, its useful, both for trading but also self-satisfaction at seeing something ported from an older game.

So what do they even mean by group trading? Is it like a wonder trade system amongst the people in the group where each is randomly assigned a Pokemon. The optimist in me hopes you can select a box and it will trade off each of the Pokemon individually. That would technically be defined as a "group" trade but I doubt that's what they mean.

Well it has been out for 3 years and it is up to Gen 4, so yeah logically speaking, the timeframe from now to early 2020 is more than due for Gen 5. They may even be working to get Gen 5 out shortly before to generate more hype.

Unless they're gonna slow down and wait until after Home so that compatibility and all the technical stuff rolls over smoothly. But I doubt that, they're not going to go a year without substantial updates, so if you want my educated guess, I'd say that yes its very likely Gen 5 will be in Go prior to Home's release.

The release schedule for new regions is roughly a year, but they don't put them all out at once. There are still Hoenn and Sinnoh pokemon that haven't been added. Some Unova pokemon should be available by then, though.

Okay, as long as they can start the process for Gen 5 that means you won't have to transfer from DS games.
Obviously homebrew people will be able to hook you up with whatever you want easily as always but it's nice to be able to do it yourself sometimes. Still first thing I'm doing in the game pre Home is do some breeding and hope I get lucky through a Wonder Trade.

No, Poke Transporter is only compatible with generation 5 games and the virtual console generation 1 and 2 games. Pokemon from gen 4 need to be transferred to gen 5 using the minigame before they can be sent through the transporter, and pokemon from gen 3 need to be transferred to gen 4 and then gen 5 before you can use it.

It's all going to be one account though. Unless you don't have a phone or aren't willing to download this on your phone, being able to do it on Switch wouldn't be any more convenient. As it is now, you can trade while playing the game without having to stop or enter any menus because it's done on a different device. If only you could send pokemon to Home from your PC in Sword and Shield without closing the game, or the phone app let you pull pokemon from SS's boxes as long as you have Home on your switch as well. Then it would be perfect.

1/450 for normal (non-event) community day shiny rate is 1/20 or something then drops to normal encounter rate. Dunno if they're still doing single event boosted rates (I've not gotten one during most of the shiny release events this year).

Despite "Let's Go has far too easily-gotten shinies", it took me 16 hours of max chain, charm and lure to find a shiny ponyta (10 year hunt btw). I had more luck in my playthrough where passing R7 both to and from Celadon city for gym and story progress I found a shiny Raticate and Pidgeotto within a day of each other (that at full-odds).
