FRLG and HGSS are the definitve versions of their regions. Gen 1 and 2 are obsolete. They same cannot be said for RSE and ORAS.

I'm not the biggest fan of V, but yeah I'm inclined to agree. Both FRLG and HGSS are better than the original, and the spin-offs are mostly great.
I still like the Pokemon in VI and VII, but the games are total shit.
