Golisopod isn't particularly bad though. It's about as strong as the average fully-evolved mon, and quite a bit stronger than most of alola's pokedex.

Anyone still remembers when we thought that there would be this cool plot twist with UB infiltrating our society, and key characters would be fought as UB in their real forms? I still want a pokemon game that does something like this

It's absolutely crippled by its ability, anon. And I don't think Gamefreak even intended for it to be a debilitating ability like Truant or Slow Start, they just don't understand their own game. If Emergency Exit gave the option to not switch out, or switched out at the end of Golisopod's turn, it'd be much more bearable.

No it makes perfect sense, he’s still a coward that relies solely on the fact that he appears scary as fuck at first, hence “first impression”. The ability is renamed to help him save face. He’s not running away, he’s merly making a tactical retreat.
