I prefer a party of two. But between three and four, I'll go with three. Four is just too many Pokemon too worry about, usually one of them ends up getting picked off by something that just spawned before the party is going into the hall. Being able to swap leaders with a press of a button does simplify things.

I really dislike how Super did away with recruiting and held items (Emeras and Looplets are shit), the system where your Pokémon get locked randomly and the ridiculous beef gates that are the post-game treasure dungeons

ah, I see. I mean, if you're playing an older game you might have to go back for a mission but otherwise yea, there is no reason to go back by yourself unless you want a recruit but you can probably find Poochyena from another dungeon.

I have to disagree about emeras and looplets. They're a good mechanic that makes the game feel more like a roguelike, makes each dungeon run feel a bit more unique and they encourage exploration of the whole floor rather than a dash to the stairs.

That’s true, but I found that in later dungeons the enemies were so grossly overpowered that every floor felt like a dash to the stairs, and it got to the point where I couldn’t get past the first few floors of any of the Never Hungries dungeons.

Hmm, I never had that issue and I feel like it's because it's assumed you're doing what I did, which is use all those gold bars they give you on rank up to buy vitamins for your main duo and max out those stats. Really sucks for anyone who didn't do that, I guess.

Hardest in the series. With the gutted basic attack carried over from Gates, it encourages you to use items, otherwise any random passerby mon could feasibly kill you.

Gates has a way better storyline then Super. Not as good as the ones before imo, but fitting for a PMD story for sure. Super has like serveral plotlines which in the end really don't pay off and then you're suddenly done with the story. I also likes the supporting cast in Gates more, because they actually remain somewhat relevant throughout the entire game.

The issue with Gates is just that it has has a severe lack of content, what's actually there is fine and the main story is worth playing through at least once if you enjoy the other games' plots and the secondary characters are some of the best written in the series. Yeah, it shouldn't be a full-priced game or considered a full-fledged entry in the series, but "literally zero good qualities" is way too harsh.

You cant enter a dungeon with 4 in RT. I usually just went with one mon, because the partners would always fall into a pitfall trap and die a death reviver seeds cant revive from.
