>>38720486No, Gatcha games are called that because they are literally a virtual version Gatchapon machines. You know those machines where you insert 50 cents and get a toy. They are widely popular in Japan and have tie-ins with anime and video games.
Anyway the virtual equivalents are basically about collecting virtual cards/characters that can be used in-game. The only one I have extensive experience with is Bahamut, but basically the way it worked is that there are cards with rarities from Normal-Legend and of course Normal is weakest and Legend is the strongest. There are drawings you can do everyday to draw a card for free, but you can pay for more drawings with better chances for Legend cards. There are also event exclusive cards that you can win, and event exclusive drawing pools.
Anyway the reason people get upset is because obtaining the Legend cards is a bitch without spending money, and most Gatcha do this. This also makes the powergap between people paying money and people playing for free, very wide.
The whole thing is pretty fun if you are more into collecting them and you don't mind not having the legend cards, and it's actually pretty easy to play without spending money, I'm hoping this game is as good.Anyway, GO isn't gatcha it's just a general mobile game urging you to spend money. The gatcha is more similar to gambling where you don't know what you are going to get, in something like GO you can buy candy or what ever it's not paying for the chance to get to possibly get a Mewtwo.
