Do you use pokemon species you've played with before in new games? Is it better to try new pokemon?

i always try to use pokemon i never used, but sometimes i use the same pokemon if all the other options are shit like

i used Aerodactyl in XY because it got a mega, i used Exeggutor in SM because it got an alolan form. Does that count?

Always rotate my teams bar the starter if it's my first time playing a region, if not even the starter gets the boot. No better way to get a sense of what a pokémon can or cannot do than use them . Also it keeps it fresh.

I don't use the same or even a similar team through all games, but I do have stuff like sticking to a certain starter per gen, and I've literally used Wimpod every time in gen 7
