Exp. Share is just a part of the problem, though. In those games you can get absurdly good pokémons very easily, but your opponents only have crap. With a Mega you could beat anyone, and you get two in the first hours of the game.

Gen V has just as long cutscenes as gen VI, if not longer.
Gen V also introduced some of the elements that made the game easier, like decreasing the number of mons the important trainers have, and streamlined the region map.
Gen V was also very heavy on the genwun pandering, despite what unovabortions themselves believe.

The general team composition of most trainers are poor quality, more trainers use the lower AI settings, most major trainers don't even have full movesets

You know what is a good counterpoint in which they have been practicing since Gen 2 (and even the spinoff games like the Stadium and Geninus Sorority console games)? Better AI, which they clearly have access to considering they use said AI for the postgame facilities and most major trainers.

Reborn is "difficult" for all the wrong reasons, such as introducing Donut Steel terrains that that almost exclusively used by the Gym Leader and blatantly in your favor, and the dev freaks out if you manage to not use a shitmon to tackle their "uber hard challenge" by either pushing them behind a cryptic exhausting side quest, putting them way way later into the game, or outright removing them.

This applied ALL trainers in gen V. A vast majority of trainers had one or two Pokemon and if they had 3, it was almost always a triple/rotation battle. Trainers virtually never had 4+, and most that do are post-game On a more positive note, trainers were never grossly underleveled (~5 levels below your team's average) so long as you didn't feverishly grind, especially on challenge mode.

An occasional reference or two is fine so long as it doesn't butt in too hard and prevent the region from forming its own identity like Alola, which couldn't stop fellatiating Kanto right out the gate.

None, really. It was Gen 5 still selling so well they thought making Kanto important, dumbed down, less content filled games was good enough and they decided they'd try to push it.

Gen 6 and 7 and likely 8 are the result of them pushing to see how far they can go before people stop buying and thus far they haven't hit that limit yet, it seems.
