Name origin
Grookey may be a combination of groove and monkey.
Sarunori may be a combination of 猿 saru (monkey) and ノリ nori (excitement, rhythm).
So Normal is associated with music and sounds.
Now Grass/Normal would work as well.
Now I'd say they'd go fossil record monkey and so Smilodectes may be close to the final form design, okay it just gets bigger, but we're missing the nature aspect (trees, plants and so on) it could be as simple as vines or more useful like fennel and chilies as they have been recorded to make sounds and respond to sounds.
So it could have a hardy feather like cape that or a nasty blow pipe that fires nasty chilli attacks.
