Been 23 years and the amount of Pokemon is 809. We will have more new Pokemon in 2019. Do you think we will have another new Pokemon in the future generation aka Gen 9, Gen 10, Gen 11,12, 13 and so on? Do you think GameFreak will stop make a new Pokemon due to "TOO MANY POKEMON"? Will we reach at least 2,000 Pokemon before we die?

We're getting fewer Pokemon each gen because Game Freak adds in more forms and changes to legacy Pokemon. With that said, I don't think we'll get to 2,000 Pokemon at any point. It's far too intimidating for players and developers to know about 2,000 Pokemon. Hell, 809 (812 with the starters) is a lot!

I agree. No more new Pokemon mean no more hype and no surprise. The most interesting in SWSH that people looking for is new Pokemon not story, gameplay, graphic or anything.

I think we will get some sort of soft reboot after some time, I don't know how they'll do it but they can't just keep adding, after a certain point it becomes just too much work to keep track of.

Yeah, they'll make tons of money by gutting all the old Pokemon and telling players the world over that the creatures they've become attached to will never be used again going forward! Why are you not in game development, Anon? GameFreak clearly needs you to rake in the big bucks by alienating pissing off an innumerable number of people!

They will make more than 10 gens but probably won’t reach gen 20. You can’t make so many pokemon without repeating a lot of themes and type combinations, so there will be a point where they won’t exploit it and will start focusing on making games with no new pokemon and mostly remakes, with a lot of generations, they can just survive creating less new regions and focusing on remakes

There will come a point where getting the pokemon you want will require going 2-3 games in the past to transfer through Home or whatever. Unless every future dex is a bloated mess and all legends are squeezed into Warp hole type events we can't keep expanding forever.

even if this is true, if you think like this you're part of the problem
a good dex is nice, until the novelty wears off. which, with gen 7, was pretty much before the game even released.
a good game is replayable endlessly.

Game Freak aren't going to stop the money making machine until the machine stops making money. Furthermore if they do have a complex of passing a certain number, they can always just do what they'r currently doing and add new forms/regional adaptations of existing pokémon to change it up that wsaay.
I honestly don't think you realsie EXACTLY how big the franchise is anon, it's like a runaway train. Either get on board and enjoy the ride or get out of the way, but either way, it's coming through.

All they'd have to do to remedy the situation is just do a repeat of Gen V, i.e. take Pokemon from the previous Generations and give them a new interpretation and/or typing. You'd still at the core have maybe 75-100 properly original new Pokemon, then 25-30 reinterpretations of old Pokemon concepts, 15-25 evolutions/pre-evos of old Pokemn

Except Regional Variants aren't trying to be new Pokemon, I'm fine with getting more regional variants especially in the later gens but I think it would be better for the dex to have new takes on old concepts, at least that way we'd be shooting for 100+ Pokemon.

You forget GF consider new designs to be analogous to new pokémon (that's why adding the Megas and Regionals added to the respective total of new Gen pokémon bump the added pokémon count to about 100 in each Gen). That (You) don't consider them "new" is irrelevant, to Game Freak they've added a "new" design to the listings.

New typing really only applies for four of the lines (Meowth, Sandshrew, Vulpix & Marowak) and even then the movesets and stats are changed significantly to make them feel different. Also for a few of them the regional form doesn't really change much design wise which I think is a much more important aspect of the design. I mean contrast Alolan Grimer and Alolan Muk with Trubbish and Garbodor, the former are very much in essence the same as the originals with the only actual addition being the small white crystalline structures growing on them whereas the latter take the concept of a Pokemon that is a form of pollution and go with a different approach representing the Pokemon as land pollution instead of water pollution. I think it would've been interesting if they'd made the physical consistency of Alolan Grimer and Muk differ from their Kantonian forms to better reflect their diet, they even did this with Alolan Raticate so it's not something unheard of for Game Freak. I just feel like there's an infinitely greater potential with doing new Pokemon based on core concepts of old Pokemon especially since it actually counts towards the Dex Total.

Except they're not part of the Dex, that's literally the only metric of Pokemon by numbers, even if Game Freak does consider Megas & Regional Variants to be unique separate Pokemon from their originals the in-game doesn't reflect that opinion.
