>>38739616Dunno what you mean by this, except gen1 and 2 (and DP, but who in their right mind would play that having Pt?), all the other games are as linear as they can be. The fact the maps make several loops and tangles around doesn't negate you're still traveling from point A to point B through the same path as any other player.
/vp/ has a real problem understanding what "linearity" in game design actually means.
>The other 4 regions allowed for much more explorationThe other regions allowed for exploration "on the side of the road", which is how GF has always handled exploration in their games, and Unova really doesn't do it any different. You still have plenty of optional places you can either check, ignore, or go back when more of it can be unlocked.
You're supposed to replay them the same way you replay any other pokemon game: testing new teams and mons and enjoying the immersion.
>>38740003>Almost every city had their own theme and musicActually, gen5 was the first (and only I think?) generation to have an unique theme for each town/city.
The cities were definitely the best we've had in the series, each one with its own thematic and separate design, and I personally think they chose perfectly at what point of the gameplay put each one; their order is excellent.
The route/"overworld" on the other hand was a bit generic in my opinion, specially coming after Hoenn's and Sinnoh's diversity. It still got some highlights though, like the best forest and the best Victory Roads.
