Now yes, that's a reductionist statement. Each Mario/Metroid/Castlevania/Halo has their own control scheme, level design, difficulty, and replayability; But dosen't that also hold true for Pokemon games? Why else would we be having gen wars?
The new Pokemon games do go beyond their predecessors, especially with gen 6 and 7 with their addition of Mega Evo's and Z Moves, but really GF just changes too little too slowly to make those new comings worth while.
