Back in Gen 4, character interaction was absolutly minimal. None of the characters were ever used despite us clearly fantasizing about them and their adventureas and stories, and the manga filled the gaps that the anime wasn't fully providing.
But Gen 5 is when they started to put more emphasis on actually developing characters, even the protagonists to an extent, within the games. And around the same time, the Manga was being hit with its worst update schedule ever, which it still hasn't recovered from.
Now Pokémon Masters is the nail in the coffin, people simply wont ever need to read a mediocre comic to see their favorite characters doing things anymore, and the anime will always exist to focus on the current gen, so what is the Manga really there for anymore?
