It has a completely soulless artificial feel. It started the illogical placement of video game level archetypes. Now we have deserts in the middle of NYC, Paris, and Hawaii expies rather than the consistent and logical regional motifs of the first 4 gens.

It's not a matter of being a 1 for 1 copy of the real life location. Japan doesn't have a massive active volcano next to a desert. That doesn't change the fact that Hoenn's desert actually makes sense with its positioning between mountain ranges to put it in a rain shadow.

Unova's desert is between two rivers and is the only way to travel between two of the largest metropolitan areas in the region.

Sand doesnt cause deserts though. A lack of rain does. There's not a situation where that section of land should be dry while everything else is mostly temperate. They might be able to explain it by saying Castelia city created a rain shadow that caused a dustbowl of sorts to form, but then that doesn't explain the well-preserved ancient ruins that would show more signs of erosion if the desert wasn't always there.

Honestly it probably would have been as simple as swapping the position of the desert and the general area around Mistralton. Put the sandy area with ancient ruins between a pair of big imposing mountains, that can block off rain, and have the grasslands with a graveyard and an airport in a more temperate spot.

Here are some reasons why I don't like that much gen V as a whole:
>worst starter trio since gen 2
>most of the dex is good but some designs are really the lows of the franchise, find me someone liking Simisear
>started the emphasis on (often silly) stories and dialogues, after 3 gens still no skip button
>the game got even easier somehow
>the region design is terrible, starting the straight line meme, often using poor excuses of roadblocks.

I got a better opinion of gen v after getting through clover.
The shitty memes somewhat made the linearity more bearable.
I guess I am just too old to give a fuck about ethics in pokemon, I really dislike BW story.

I completely disagree. Half of the gen 5+ Pokemon look like they either have zig zags painted on them for no reason, or they have random shapes glued on. Let’s take the spirals on embroar. They do nothing to help the person understand what the Pokemon is. They just exist to fill space. Real design involves carefully planning every element so that the entire end design feels cohesive but not cluttered.

Because it's literally the definition of "more of the same". People meme about it being Kanto 2.0, but in reality it's Hoenn patch 1.1. What's infuriating is that retards genuinely think every old Pokemon being replaced with shiny new gifs makes the game "fresh". This is the same level of stupidity as SM where they tout no gym leaders as a selling point when they're replaced with functionally the same thing.
